Teacher Program Offerings

Every Child Can! ®

Saturday, August 2, 2008, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
This is an introductory course, developed by the Suzuki Association of the Americas. Aided by videotapes of student lessons and performances, and by a carefully developed textbook, this course is open to interested parents as well as teachers, school administrators and potential teachers. This one-day foundation course serves as a prerequisite for the remaining Suzuki teacher training courses offered during this institute. It will be the initial portion of our Book 1 teacher training course this summer. The fee for this course is $100.00. ECC is required prior to taking Book 1. Courses must be taken in order through Book 2.

Short-Term Teacher Workshop

August 2 - 10, 2008
The teacher courses are an inspiring and supportive means for exploring teaching. Trainees will learn about the repertoire and techniques used in the unit being covered. Participants should own a copy of the Suzuki book and must prepare the material within it. Memorization is not required, but is recommended. Fluent performance is required. Participants should be conversant with the ideas presented in Dr. Suzuki’s Nurtured by Love. 100% attendance is required. It is recommended that a tape recorder and notebook are brought to all sessions. All participants in the short term courses must be active members of the Suzuki Association of the Americas.

To qualify as a participant rather than an auditor in training courses, applicants must submit a videotape audition of specified repertoire to the SAA, preferably prior to enrollment. Tapes should be submitted at least 8 weeks prior to the course start date, with the required fees and a completed application form. If submitted later than 8 weeks before the course start date, audition results determining participant’s eligibility may not be available prior to the course, and late audition fees are required. For courses occurring during summer 2008, applicants submitting tapes later than March 31, 2008 may not receive audition results prior to the course, even if the above deadlines are met.

An applicant may enroll late as “tape pending”, but will incur late audition fees, and audition results determining eligibility for participant credit will probably not be available until after the course. If auditions from “tape pending” applicants are not accepted, their coursework will not be eligible retroactively for SAA credit registration as a participant, only as an auditor—even if coursework is completed. For further information, please see the SAA website at www.suzukiassociation.org, in the teacher section under training, the downloadable video audition application form with instructions, or call the SAA toll free at (888) 378-9854 for this form.

All participants will be performing in class. Strings and woodwinds are expected to provide their own instruments.
